While hiking in the San Juan Islands recently, I came across this tree that looked like Groot rising up from the forest floor. Not the hair-like tree growing out of his "head."
So what are those eyes? Loggers cut notches into trees so they could cut up higher on the tree. This would allow them to get just the straight part of the tree and avoid the lower section where it spread.
