After looking at ice, water, and penguins day after day, I decided to experiment with ways that I could process the images to create abstracts. I had thousands of "straight" images, so why not play around with some of them and see what sorts of variations I could do?
My approach was to take an image, rotate it, and then use a blend mode. Blend modes perform mathematical operations on two layers, which in turn affects the color. Each blend mode creates a different effect. The first three images are based on large colonies of penguins. The next two are ice, then a landscape. The last four are what I call "ice derivatives" which are are particular treatment of details of ice bergs. Double-click (or double tap) this image to see the slideshow images in their proper aspect ratio. Enjoy!
